All About Us at World Pet Travel

We began our journey almost 10 years ago when we lived in Port Jefferson, New York.

I have always loved animals and have taken an unusual interest in pet relocation. I could see how pets were being sold over the internet and how many people that we knew with pets were being transferred to all parts of the world.

I know from experience that the last stress builder that a family needs when they are moving is trying to figure out how to move their pets. After all, most of us have children and/or a household to move, not to mention a new job to be concerned with.

We have always had a houseful of our own pets and an extended family through our friends and neighbors. I have worked with veterinarians and animals in emergency pet care clinics for most of my life and have learned a lot about how to take care of and nurture all kinds of animals.

First Moves

As a result of the experience that I had acquired, several people began to approach me about helping them move their pets when their family was relocated and that is basically how it began.

After a few successful pet moves, word got around that I knew about pet travel and how to move pets from point A to point B and was very good at it. I could move pets throughout the United States and even into some other countries although not many at this time as I did not have a network. This is when our pet travel story took off in a different direction.

From New York to Costa Rica

In New York, I transported animals privately for friends and breeders until 9-11 when all of the rules and regulations changed. About that time, my husband was transferred to Costa Rica in Central America as the plant manager of an international corporation.

Well this was my biggest challenge yet because I had to transport a bird that was on the endangered species list along with 3 dogs, 3 cats and 3 kids to Costa Rica. Fortunately, we all made it there without incident and spent 5 years in Costa Rica with my family before being transferred back to the United States.

During my time in Costa Rica a friend and colleague of mine in New York told me that because I had such a passion for animals and their care, I shouldn’t stop what I was doing with the moving of the animals simply because I had left the United States and had such a natural talent for organizing pet travel.

Working in Costa Rica

After much thought and investigative work, I learned that transporting pets in and out of Central America had its own set of rules and challenges unlike anything I had experienced in the United States.

I spent a year gathering information and making all of the right connections so that I could insure a safe move for any animal when that I took part in their relocation.

I formed a company called Guardian Angels CR while in Costa Rica, helping not only with moving my clients' pets, families, and but also assisting with the logistics of moving to Costa Rica.

I became a member of an international group of pet transporters called IPATA as the only agent in Costa Rica for the import and export of pets and other animals.

You can visit our websites in Costa Rica at Guardian Angels CR or our blog at The Relocation Blog to read of some of our experiences with pets and living in Costa Rica.

Moved Back to the United States

Upon our arrival in the Central United States our pet travel story took yet another direction. I immediately started gathering information about how things had changed since I had left. I decided to open an office in the Central U.S. so that I can continue to help people moving in and out of the United States or across country.

We still have our office in Costa Rica to assist families with their pet transportation needs in and out of Costa Rica. But our main office is in the United States.

Since we now have 2 offices and are transporting pets all over the world, we felt that it was appropriate to rename our company World Pet Travel LLC.

World Pet Travel is registered with the United States Department of Agriculture as an intermediate handler and are recognized by Transportation Security Administration as a known shipper. This licensing is just some of the many changes that took place after 9-11 and is required for transporting animals on a commercial airline as manifest cargo.

Guardian Angels CR and World Pet Travel

Guardian Angels CR and World Pet Travel are both members of IPATA operating in Costa Rica and Lexington Kentucky in the United States. We have an international network of pet shippers that we work with daily, worldwide.

World Pet Travel can send or receive animals from any corner of the world and have done just that for many years now. We would like for you to allow us to help you with moving your pets, whether it is a temporary relocation, permanent move, new addition to your family, job relocation or just an extended vacation.

Our pet travel story continues and I am sure that we will have many more experiences moving pets and relocating families for many years to come. This is our hope and our prayer.
